Blair and Samba 2006
Eight black-and-white laser prints and Batucada on headphones
A1 size
Commissioned by curator Richard Hylton for This Is Not a Collaboration: Susan Taylor and Flávia Müller Medeiros
Unit 2 Gallery, London
A reapropriated sequence of six photographs of Tony Blair, taken in quick succession, passionately delivering a speech in the House Of Commons. Originally published in the Guardian, the images were scanned and enlarged so Blair appears ?lifesized, then printed and pasted directly to the gallery wall, ?one next to the other. Accompanying the posters are two sets of headphones playing Batucada, an African Brazilian percussive arrangement by the Escola de Samba Independente de Padre Miguel.
